Be a part of the Southern Festival of Books

FOR AUTHORS: If you are an author interested in being considered for the Festival program, we accept submissions from January 1 to June 1 each year. Please send one copy of your book, along with your full contact information, author bio, and any relevant press materials, to:

Humanities Tennessee
Southern Festival of Books Program Committee
807 Main St, Ste B
Nashville, TN 37206

We regret that we are not able to return books submitted for consideration. We do not currently accept e-reader-only submissions or self-help books. The Festival receives hundreds of submissions annually. While we do not decline to review any self-published books, we strongly discourage out-of-state self-published authors from submitting books for review.

VOLUNTEER: It takes about 400 community volunteers each year to make the Southern Festival of Books such a great success. Thanks to individuals who care about books and want to share their passion for reading, Nashville becomes a literary center for the three days of the event. Author feedback each year praises our system of offering courtesy rides from the airport, our community members who host each session at the Festival, the friendly and helpful people in the Author Hospitality Suite and more. There are many ways of volunteering for our Festival, from assisting at our Youth Stage to transporting guests in a shuttle.  As a volunteer, not only will you receive a cool shirt, but also an invitation to our Saturday night party where you can meet nice people and be appreciated for your hard work and support.

  • If you would like to volunteer, please fill out our form here.
  • If you are a high school student and need to receive credit for your volunteer hours, please fill out this form.
  • And if you are interested in being a host for author sessions, please contact Serenity Gerbman at
  • Contact with any further questions.

DONATEHumanities Tennessee is a private, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, not connected to any branch of government. We do receive federal funding through the National Endowment for the Humanities, but it is not enough alone to sustain all of our programs. We rely upon, and appreciate, the hundreds of individuals in Nashville and across Tennessee who believe in the Festival and choose to support the event with their contributions. Please consider a contribution that will help us to maintain the Festival as a premier event, welcoming authors from across the country for three days of serious literary inquiry and joyous celebration of the written word each year. You may send us a check to: Humanities Tennessee, 807 Main St, Ste B, Nashville, TN 37206, or make an online donation. Thank you for supporting the Festival!

SPONSORIf you are a business interested in serving as a sponsor of the event through a direct contribution, or in-kind support through donation of goods or services, please contact Jennifer Chalos at: or call: 615-310-8344.
