Public Programs for "Face of a President" exhibit at James K. Polk Home


In conjunction with "The Face of a President" exhibit, the James K. Polk Home will present public programs on 19th-century portraits and early photography.

  • Lucy Scott Kuykendall and art conservator Cynthia Stowe will present a program on painted portraits from early 19th-century America on Tuesday, November 18th.
  • Clifford Krainik will present a program on early photography on Thursday, December 4th.

Both programs begin at 7:00pm in the Polk Presidential Hall in Columbia.

"The Face of a President" exhibit details how the advent of lithography and photography in early 19th-century America increased political awareness and created a closer connection between the people and their government. The exhibit features original portraits of Polk, including paintings, lithographs, and daguerreotypes as well as the innovative equipment that produced the images. The exhibit is on view from June, 2014 through January 11th, 2015 at the James K. Polk Home and Museum.
