My Family, My Community, My World

East Nashville Hope Exchange

Forty-two at-risk East Nashville children entering first through third grades attended a six-week summer literacy program focusing on the theme of "My Family, My Community, My World."

Each week, students engaged the theme through reading/discussion of literature, interacting with community guest readers, participating in project-based learning, and taking field trips to seek first-hand knowledge and apply classroom concepts. The goal of this project was for students to better understand their roles in the community and develop into active citizens.
