Echoes of Emancipation: One Region, Many Voices

Sponsor: African American Heritage Alliance

Echoes of Emancipation was a two-day conference bringing together local and nationally known scholars, visual and performing artists, students in local schools, and community panels drawn from the African American community in East Tennessee to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Emancipation and engage in critical debate about what Emancipation meant for black people (both slave and free) in East Tennessee.
