The Crossroads of Memory: Carroll Cloar and the American South

Sponsor: The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art

From June through September of 2013, the special exhibition "The Crossroads of Memory: Carroll Cloar and the American South" explored the life and work of the celebrated artist. The best-known and most influential painter to come from West Tennessee, Cloar created paintings that rank among the most haunting and beautiful evocations ever made of the American South. The exhibition brought together approximately 80 paintings, from private collections and from museums including the Museum of Modern Art, by this American master, who lived and worked in Memphis.
