Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn Wow at Benefit Show

On Thursday, March 26th, Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn played a special benefit concert for Humanities Tennessee. Hosted by Parnassus Books, the event was a wonderful and intimate occasion for the lucky 100 audience members in attendance.

After a brief introduction by Karen Hayes of Parnassus Books and Serenity Gerbman and Alexis Stevens of Humanities Tennessee, Fleck and Washburn wasted no time in hooking the audience with their unique blend of folk, roots, and jazz. Washburn's beautiful voice easily floated above the dual banjos and felt like it was coming from another time with its warm and lonesome tone. She delighted the audience with a dance while Fleck did what he does best--shredded on the banjo.

Each ticket came with a copy of Fleck and Washburn's new self-titled album. The performance was followed by a meet-and-greet and CD signing with Fleck and Washburn, who were incredibly gracious and stayed until the last audience member left. Everyone left with a smile on their face.

All proceeds from the evening benefitted Humanities Tennessee. We cannot adequately express how humbled and grateful we are that these two world-class musicians would give of their time and talent for us. We thank them sincerely for their support, and wish them all the best. A huge thank you also to Parnassus Books for setting the whole event up and for believing in us. Nashville is very lucky to have such a rich and supportive arts and humanities community!
